Central Most – Praised to heaven, damned to hell. Few buildings in the Most district five years ago divided the public into two completely different opinion camps. Nevertheless, the Central department store has defended its position and remains the largest local temple of shopping and walking, often referred to as the weather.
By the time it was finished, critics were cursing, writing complaints, and prophesying the new business would fail. When Central opened its doors on May 15, 2008, fans were nearly trampled in the stampede. And the crash didn’t happen.
But today, if you ask a small shopkeeper in the area, whose sales have been falling for five years, he says the same thing: “That tin box is competition and doesn’t belong in the center!” Times are hard enough without her. People don’t have money . We’re just surviving.”
Customers and salespeople admit that they often go to Central just for fun. However, many have changed their minds within five years: it is no longer just about consumption, but about a meeting place. “I was skeptical from the beginning. But now I think that Central is an asset,” says Krista Macholdová in a full cafe. She is one of those who are enjoying the new space, as is common in Western Europe.
