The Varyáda shopping center in Karlovy Vary is undergoing a transformation: An extensive renovation and expansion of the center continues in full operation with a completion date before the Christmas season of 2025. The owner of the center – the EPG Group – is investing 40 million euros in it.
A new stylish gastrozone with a capacity of 260 visitors and an offer of foreign and domestic specialties, complemented by an outdoor terrace and a pair of drive-in restaurants, will be introduced this year in autumn. The Albert supermarket will get a new face and the entire shopping arcade will also be transformed, which will continue to grow.
The centre’s area will increase by a full third and Varyáda will offer over 110 shops on a total of 27,000 m2 of space, including a palette of new brands, restaurants, services and cinematic entertainment. The modern and, in terms of the Karlovy Vary region, long-awaited six-hall multiplex cinema has been going up since the end of May in the front section of Varyáda.
The construction of a 1000-seat multiplex cinema is underway Premiere Cinemas will be opening its multiplex cinema in Karlovy Vary’s Varyáda shopping centre, expanding to its fourth location within the Czech Republic. The cinema will liven up the Karlovy Vary cultural scene and increase the total attendance of the shopping centre, from which the other tenants will benefit.
EPG’s management believes that the multiplex cinema has the potential to attract completely new customers from a wide area to visit. “It is a great benefit for the whole city, Karlovy Vary has lacked a multiplex cinema until now. It will be the very first and only one in the entire Karlovy Vary Region. In addition to screening the latest films, it will also be possible to use the
spaces as convention facilities thanks to the ideal conditions for conferences and corporate events,” said Martin Malý, Director of Communication in EPG Group.
There are plans for state-of-the-art projection and sound technology, including Dolby Altmos multichannel surround sound and laser projectors. The equipment will include padded seats and some halls will also have comfortable electric folding chairs. Of course, there will be barrier-free access for spectators with restricted mobility. Upon completion, six halls equipped with unique technology with a capacity of up to 1,000 seats will be available on an area of 2,500 m2. The construction of the multiplex began at the end of May this year and the opening is planned for the summer months of 2025.
Karlovy Vary has been waiting for the construction of a new multiplex cinema for many years. “If the locals wanted to experience the atmosphere of a multi-hall cinema, they had to travel to Plzeň or the capital city of Prague,” stated Martin Malý. In a way, it was a paradox, since Karlovy Vary is famous throughout the Czech Republic and all of Europe not only for its long tradition of spa treatment, but also for its spectacular International Film Festival, which traditionally takes place at the beginning of July. Premiere Cinemas multiplex cinemas are currently located in Olomouc, Prague and Teplice. Thus, in exactly one year, the fourth multiplex cinema of this brand will be opening In Varyáda.
